So the connector for my canister vent shut valve on my 2011 Fit got cut somehow. Perhaps chewed by a small woodland critter. Either way, I need a new pigtail (the valve unit itself it fine, just the lead into it is the problem). Might anyone have knowledge of a junked/wrecked Fit of the appropriate vintage? I live in Northern Virginia, and the mechanic has already checked junkyards around here to no avail. I've also called Honda and, of course, they want me to replace the entire fucking wiring harness because "that's the only way we can guarantee the (out of warranty) repair."
Anyway, let me know if you have any ideas or know where to find one. I'd pay you for the part/shipping if I can't order/pick it up myself.

Can you not just buy the type of connector on ebay and a length of wire? I've done that in the past.

I'm looking for it, but there appears to be a shortage of wrecked Fits. And of course, Honda doesn't keep junked wiring harnesses in the dealership so I can't just ask them to snip off the required part and sell it piecemeal.

Is splicing it back together not an option? Bit of shrink wrap and a solid soldered connection should have you back together right as rain...

It might be a type of connector that's commonly used for other purposes and therefore easy to get hold of. Mine was for something on my old scooter but the connector type had been used on a fair few cars and bikes, so I could just buy one new and wire it up.

Yes, but it's last ditch. I don't have the tools to do it myself, and the mechanic doesn't want to attempt unless it's the only option since he only gets one shot at it.

Unless someone has access to a Honda parts manual, I don't know. I would suspect so, but Honda claims that they only sell it as part of the wiring harness, not individually. Other manufacturers DO sell the pigtail connector, but apparently not Honda. Because they're Honda.

Try getting a clear photo of the connector and google image searching it, I've found parts that way before, it's surprisingly good at getting a match. I had to get photos from a few angles and search all of them to get the match though.

How about looking at other Honda car models - it is likely that the Civic part is the same and there are plenty of wrecked Civics out there (sadly - had a 1993 CX hatchback - first new car I ever bought and it was awesome).

That's one of the things I'm looking in to. It's been difficult to suss out the parts catalog though.

Well, one shot before he fries the BCM. Then you have another shot when replacing the BCM. :P

Post a picture of the connector here with any type of markings. You can usually find automotive connectors for sale at places like alliedelec.com or digikey. Just make sure you order the right pins with it. It should be under $25 to buy it all. Hopefully you know how to put terminals on a wire.

Don't have a picture unfortunately. I'll check those sites though, thanks.

Honda and Nissan (amongst many others) are notorious for only offering the entire harness and not just the pigtail/fitting.
EDIT: Shoot me up a VIN and I might be able to get a part number for you.

Yeah, that seems to be the main problem. According to the mechanic, Toyota and Ford are better about piecemealing parts out. I don't have my VIN handy, but it's a 2011 Fit Base AT. I'd imagine that anything from the 2nd Generation (2008-2013) would be an identical fit (hehe). I don't know though if there are other Honda models that share the part. Based on the design of the shut valve itself, I don't think the Civic does.
